Scott & Ruth Ann Shamblin have been training in and teaching Isshin-Ryu Karate since the 1970's.  They are dedicated to helping every student in their school grow and develop positively through their training.  They have a long-standing reputation for providing consistent quality instruction with excellent results.

In January 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Shamblin introduced a new program in their school, a special class just for home-schooled children.  This class is offered on Monday from 12:15pm until 1:15pm. Children can finish their school lessons, then come exercise both their bodies and minds in a positive structured environment.  Mr. and Mrs. Shamblin personally teach these classes, providing the youth with a variety of martial arts skills and exposure.  Emphasis is placed on self-defense, motor skills, balance, confidence, character development, courtesy, fitness and of course, fun. The classes are offered in six-week sessions with NO contracts involved.

Shamblins' School of Karate is located at 2980 Westside Commons on Westside Drive – near Sky Ridge West (ClevelandCommunityHospital), next door to Morningside Assisted Living. A new session begins August 20. The school features a special workout room floor like that used in the olympics for safety and comfort.  A comfortable viewing room is provided so our parents can relax, visit and enjoy watching their children in class.   Parents are always welcome, but are not required to stay while their child(ren) are in class.  We are a family-oriented facility.  If you do not start during the August 20 session, the start of the next new session will be October 8.  Please contact us right away if you plan to begin during one of these two sessions.

The first session costs $70 and includes your child's uniform, white belt and six weeks of classes.  Thereafter, the cost is $50 per six-week course.  For siblings, first session, second child is $50, and third sibling is $40.  Subsequent sessions are second sibling - $30, third sibling - $20.  Children test at the end of each six-week period to advance in rank – stripes, belts and certificates.  There is no fee for this.  If your child should miss a class, you are welcome to make it up in one of our evening youth classes.

Please note again that you do NOT pay extra for testing, belts, and rank certificates.

Our home school karate class is designed for school age youth, age 6 and up.  If enrollment exceeds optimum class size, a second class will be formed.  Likewise, if there is enough demand, we will consider a class for younger children age 4, 5 & 6.

If you have any questions or would like to enroll your child(ren), please contact Mrs. Shamblin (Ruth Ann) at Shamblins' School of Karate at 472-5634.  We run the home school sessions year round usually with a week break between, with time off for holidays and a six week break in the summer. During the longer break, our evening classes are available should you choose to continue training without this break.

We hope to hear from you and look forward to meeting you and your children.
